Is Anandtech being paid by OCZ to hold this event?
  • Ryan Smith - Thursday, October 6, 2016 - link

No. We just like giving stuff away.=)
  • hojnikb - Thursday, October 6, 2016 - link

Could you make it international next time ?
It sux for us in EU :)
  • DanNeely - Thursday, October 6, 2016 - link

The need to comply with ~180 counties different sets of laws make doing international contests legally much more expensive. Unlike Bob's Tech News Blog Purch is too big to just ignore the law and hope no one calls them on it; unfortunately they're also nowhere near large enough to actually afford the team of international lawyers needed to host a near global contest. A few countries on the US Enemies list are out of the question if doing business there, and Quebec charges fees high enough and has other notional consumer protection laws that almost no one not doing a contest specific to the Canada is willing to put up with them. (Thus protecting Quebecois from being allowed to win swag from abroad.)

He who really wants looks for solutions, he who doesn't looks for excusses.
  • DanNeely - Thursday, October 6, 2016 - link

So are you recommending they double the number of ads and/or run much more obnoxous ones to hire an international legal team, or that they break laws all over the planet and hope none of the countries that they work in, travel to trade shows in, or travel through while commuting between the former and home decide to care and arrest them in the airport?
  • HollyDOL - Thursday, October 6, 2016 - link

Tbh they should at least manage major audience countries like Canada, UK, Australia and perhaps India as AT has (or at least used to have) big audience there. Including none at all and excusing that on this or that is just plain 'cba' attitude.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE "DO NOT" send me any OCZ SSDs

I Love the 10 year Warranty on my Samsung 850 Pros

I LOVE the fact that they can Copy and Paste files to and from the same SSD TWICE as fast as the older 840 Pro and almost 32 times Faster than the old Vertex I had

When will Anandtech start testing Internal throughput anyway?

Speed tests to and from "modern" SSD's are all about the same for SATA3 drives but internal speeds "to and from the same drive" differ quite remarkably

    Disclaimer:
840 and 850 Pro's were tested using XP-SP2 on SATA2 using IDE protocol in order to directly compare the speeds with OCZ Vertex 1 & 2 drives which are no longer available for testing on newer hardware

Do the internal speeds of the new OCZ drives come even remotely close to the new Samsungs?

Will they ever have a 10 year warranty?

Will you have to give them away or can you actually sell them as well?

Sorry, I just had to LOL

    Send me his.

Maybe the questions were too hard?

    Lets try again....
Is it more embarassing to have "experts" that cannot answer a few questions, or "experts" that refuse to answer them?
  • Bullwinkle J Moose - Monday, October 10, 2016 - link

I'm being to harsh and I'm sorry, but we now have one World Leader in SSDs and 50 also-rans with resellers adding to the problem by offering SATA1 and SATA2 SSDs even today

You can still buy the original OCZ 1st gen Vertex (250GB) at newegg for $480
or you can get a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro for $420

A few gems in this market full of Crap can be a real problem for a new computer user

I'd like to see Newegg and others sell only the best SSD's in each catagory to drive quality up and prices down for "New Stock Only"

Anything over 3 years old should be liquidated within 30 days at ANY PRICE!
    Competition is a GOOD thing!
  • Samus - Thursday, October 13, 2016 - link

Samsung SSD support sucks. Good luck dealing with that useless 10 year warranty. You'll probably get as far as us poor saps did with the 840 EVO's...

    3rd time the charm?

No need for me to worry about Samsung Warranty Support

I torture all of my drives far beyond anything you will see at these tech sites while they are still under 30 day return policy

I never again buy from ANY brand that fails my torture tests

Brands that NEVER Fail my tests are good enough for my data and I buy a spare in case of failure down the road

In other words, "I" personally cover the warranty of the drives I buy as well as extended Warranty support for drives that I trust with my own data

I therefore have instant access to spare 850 Pros should anything go wrong and the warranty is not an issue when testing the reliability of my drives

But it is nice to have a 10 year warranty without the problems that EVOs had should I ever need it

Warranty support issues are only a problem for those who do not plan ahead

I might not plan ahead when double or triple posting to the wrong area of this thread, but that issue has never affected the reliability my drives!

What happened to the forum accounts?
I have had an acct for YEARS and my acct was no found so I had to make a new one... and I can't enter a question with my new acct.

    ... rather annoying :/

Accounts are not deleted. So your account is still there, even if you don't necessarily remember the name of it.
  • Freakie - Thursday, October 6, 2016 - link

If you've confirmed your new account, try posting again. I created a new account and was able to post a question on the board but I do remember a weird little problem with the board saying I didn't have permission to post, but a few minutes later when I tried again everything worked.

Oh the irony... ask the experts in what?Surely not in reliability, or in building reliable hardware. Experts? Who? Toshiba's experts, maybe.
  • ocztaec - Wednesday, October 12, 2016 - link

    Hi 3ogdy,
As this is my first comment in regards to this article please allow me to identify myself as a member of Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc.(TAEC). We completely understand the reliability concerns from the past and appreciate your comments. OCZ is now a brand under Toshiba and uses only premium Toshiba hardware such as NAND and controller in our SSDs.
Anandtech’s Ask the Expert event gave us the opportunity to have an open dialog with their audience like yourself. We hope by being transparent that one day we will have the opportunity to demonstrate the reliability of current OCZ products. Thank you again for your comments.

OCZ giveaway ... This is like giving free turds. Noone gives a d@mn.
  • Samus - Thursday, October 13, 2016 - link

Man sometimes I feel like I'm the only OCZ fan left...and yes I had a Vertex 2 fail back in the day, total piece of shit. But it is an entirely different company. OCZ went bankrupt and Toshiba completely restructured them. I remember Anand saying to them in an interview to ditch their name while they were going through a renaissance. For just the reason you think their products are "turds."

Just curious, what car do you drive? Odds are it's Korean or Japanese, or perhaps a Chrysler. You do realize at one time the Korean and Japanese cars were the biggest pieces of shit on the road, right? Korean cars weren't even good until 10-15 years ago, and Chrysler...man how they've turned around.
  • Samus - Thursday, October 13, 2016 - link

Awesome, so happy they answered my indilinx question! Great to see the indilinx/PLX engineers weren't discarded because Barefoot was an incredibly good controller, even if it is an idle power hog.
